EcoFlip's Smug-Free Classifieds and Blog: A pair of passionate entrepreneurs destined to voyage down the Green Brick Road...and along came the SMUG!!!
If you've never seen it, the South Park trailor for Smug Alert! ingeniously sums it up.
In short, Smug is an unfortunate evolutionary pollution due to an overzealous and oftentimes superficial society during the ecological movement of the early 21st century. Smug most frequently exists in the form of peer pressure, judgement and self-righteousness, oftentimes blocking the doorway to curious individuals with a genuine interest in deepening their relationship to our beautiful planet.
Smug-Free is about getting in touch with mama nature...without the unecessary 'tude. It's just as much about being ego-friendly as it is about being eco-friendly.
Two everyday guys, passionate about planet earth and entrepreneurship, predicted that along with a rapid increase in green products and eco-friendly services worldwide, people were going to need a special place to advertise them...
Forrest and Joe met in high school yoga class. At an early age, they flirted with the idea of one day owning a business together. Forrest recounts, I will never forget the times at UCSD, whether we were sitting in the hot tub after a day at the beach or we were pretending to study at the library, we would constantly be pitching business and invention ideas off of each other.
Right there and then, they made a pact stating that within 3 years time, they would be working for themselves and somehow helping others to do the same....
Forrest Kolb
Now 26 years old, Forrest got his start as an entrepreneur when he launched a start-up clothing line named Johnnie California while completing his degree in Bioengineering from UCSD. Getting an early start as an entrepreneur, he once even coined the title Fashion Engineer on his business card.
He was then hired by Genentech, Inc. to help move drugs through the product pipeline. He resigned after a year and a half to concentrate on the web.
Interests include reading, writing, thinking, hiking, surfing, travel, flamenco guitar, theology, wikinomics, EcoPreneurship, and Praying Mantis Kung Fu. One of his favorite things to do is to cruise down the California coast (listening to the Eagles/Ottmar Liebert/Chili Peppers) with a mandatory stop in Santa Barbara for a quick run!
Joe Paone
Recruited out of college for a job in the financial industry, Joe worked for one of the top money managers in the country. He quickly learned that a job in corporate America was not for him.
As a 3rd generation self-made Italian businessman, Joe brings an old-school mentality in the Web 2.0 era. He approaches the industry with a rational mindset, finding ways to implement traditional business practices in today's evolving society.

Why Manage Your Electricity?
Electricity that comes to your home from a substation has characteristics that are not ideal for your home or business, namely a poor Power Factor (PF). A poor PF can result in wires and motors overheating, shortening the life of your appliances or equipment and putting your electrical system at risk. When the PF is improved, motors will be more efficient due to them starting with less stress and running cooler, thus prolonging their life expectancy.
Here's How It Works!
XPS Electricity Management Systems improve the Power Factor by reducing the amount of reactive power that the load draws from the utility company. This is accomplished by supplying the reactive power locally at the load by the use of specifically designed capacitors. These capacitors store the reactive power needed for stabilizing electric current within an inductive load. Therefore, the amount of reactive power purchased from the power company results in"lower utility costs if the power factor clause is enforced or the utility charges for the kVA demand."
Why Improve The Power Factor?
XPS Electricity Management Systems are designed to reduce the kilovolt-amps (kVA or apparent power) on inductive motors in the home or business. "The XPS Systems have been scientifically proven to consistently reduce kVAR,kVA and Amp values under constant kW load while improving Power Factor in homes or businesses."

Xguard EMF Reduction Filter
What You Can't See COULD Hurt You?
Electromagnetic radiation (EMF's) is emitted by all electrical devices as well as devices that emit radio waves such as kitchen appliances, computers and cell phones. If you are like most people, you have electronic devices in your home and office. You may even have a numver of these devices in the bedroom where your body is supposed to rest and repair each night. EMF's can impact your physical and emotional health. They can interfere with the quality of your sleep, aggravate nervousness and even cause families to be more argumentative than usual.
It's like the saying that a man who gets his arm broken in two places should stay out of those places. EMF's are powerful stuff and chances are, you are exposed to some level of them. You may have an older computer that emits high levels of EMF's, but you don't have to have it on the table next to your bed.
Electrical Hypersensitivity
Electrical Hypersensitivity (EHS) is an allergic-like reaction to EMFs (Electric and Magnetic Fields). Today it's estimated we are now being exposed to a trillion times more EMF energy than our grandparents were. Electromagnetic energy from outside disrupts the body's critical balance and plays havoc with the millions of electrical impulses our body uses to regulate all cellular activity.
Scientists now believe as much as 40-50% of the population may be unknowingly experiencing symptoms of EHS, with 3-5% of the cases severe enough to significantly impact an individual's overall quality of life. Many EHS sufferers improve quickly and symptoms disappear, or are lessened, when they are returned to an environment where EMF sources have been reduced or eliminated.

Hey guys, read the article about you in Marin Magazine; was quite disappointed to read about your clothes choices. What is so ecological about buying from manufacturers that produce in China, namely Sundance. You would think Robert could afford to produce in US? Would be great if the 2 of you could give some focus to local designers / manufacturers.
Also ... ready for some new posts.
